Thailand has always been close to my heart. Over 7 years ago, I backpacked around Asia with my girlfriends, and Phuket was one of the places that really strengthened my love for traveling. Of course at that time, beach parties and famous tourist destinations very well topped our agenda. So we spent a good time exploring the Phi Phi Islands, diving the famous Viking Bay, hiking all the way up to the viewpoint, and just making loads of new friends.
However, this time around at 30, finding peaceful and less touristy spots seem more fitting for me. Sometimes, at this age, I enjoy “missing out” on the top things to do in every country I explore, and more of just discover hidden locations, create my own paths to trek and just get lost in the beauty of the unknown and the unfamiliar.
We are currently staying in Cape Panwa, a quiet, beautifully secluded location on the island of Phuket. We are far from the busy streets and crowded beaches of Patong, but close enough to the pristine and relaxing private Panwa Beach, or a speed boat away if we want to explore Phi Phi or Krabi on less busy days.
Most of our days are spent sleeping under the sun, taking walks by the beach, reading long over due books and a lot of writing and reflecting for me. Of course we signed up for some activities we thought we would enjoy, such as Thai cooking class and visiting the Tigers. I’ll share more about that on separate posts. We are really enjoying the slower and more relaxing activities this time around. Must be part of getting old. Also truly thankful for this time to reflect, pray and appreciate what I have and what I have yet to work hard for.
That’s it for a quick Thailand update! Stay tuned for more of our adventures in the next few days. Happy weekend and Happy Valentine’s day, my loves! ❤️
